Neck and
shoulder pain is very common. In this digital era, neck pain patients have

Sudden neck
pain – it happens to us all too often. Many of us suffer from neck pain due to
wrong posture and improper stress on the muscles during daily movement and
activities. Most of the time it is possible to get rid of neck pain just by
changing the correct standing, sitting or lying posture. Also, if neck pain
occurs, the pain usually goes away if the neck muscles are rested for two days.
Why neck pain?
Neck tissue deteriorates with age. Those who work sitting in front of the laptop for a long time, this problem is more common. This causes a gap in the middle bone of the neck. People with cervical spondylitis (bone loss in the spine in the neck) may also experience neck pain.
- A slipped disc can occur when any of the tissue in the spinal cord becomes inflamed for any reason. There is also pain in the neck from there.
- If the neck is injured in an accident, the pain lasts for a long time. Muscle tension sometimes causes pain.
- Incorrect sitting posture can cause neck pain. Sleeping on a crooked side puts pressure on the neck, which can also lead to neck pain. If such a problem occurs, it becomes impossible to rotate the neck on the other side.
- Stress and anxiety can also cause neck pain.
- Sometimes lying in bed reading a book, watching TV or sitting up working on a laptop also causes tension in the neck muscles.
Massage therapy
Massage therapy can cure any pain in the body. Also helps you sleep better. May stimulate blood flow and increase muscle performance.
For this you will need olive, mustard or coconut oil. First take a bath with lukewarm water. Then wipe the entire body. Heat a tablespoon of oil and massage it on the neck.
Massage gently in circular motions for a few minutes. Repeat this every morning. You can massage the neck again at any time of the day. But do not rub any injured area if there is excessive pain.
Ice pack
Ice is great for reducing muscle inflammation. Applying an ice pack increases vasodilation of the skin, which helps cool blood flow back to the neck muscles. For this you will need ice cube, towel.
Treatment
You can take topical pain medication for neck pain. In addition, pregabalin or tricyclic antidepressants are given to relieve neck and nerve pain, reduce anxiety and relax muscles. Steroid injections can also be given into the lower joints of the spine or into the muscles of the neck.
Surgery: If the pain does not subside, the doctor may decide on surgery.
Physiotherapy: You can also get therapy from a physiotherapist for pain relief. But of course, the therapist will give exercise and massage with the advice of an orthopedic doctor. A physiotherapist mainly uses cervical traction, short wave diathermy, massage, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation.
Regular exercise: Do regular neck exercises. Try rotating the neck counterclockwise. Seek expert advice if needed. But do not exercise when there is too much pain. Remember, regular exercise is beneficial.
What to do to prevent neck pain-
- When you use laptop or PC, then make sure the screen is at eye level.
- When using your mobile phone, make sure your neck is not strained while texting.
- Do regular neck exercises to keep your neck muscles relaxed.
- Don't drive for a long time. Because it can make your neck and back stiff.
- If you feel neck pain due to sleeping position; So, use the right pillows and bedding.
Chronic neck pain can also be a result of bad posture, physical stress
and diet. If natural home remedies do not relieve your pain; Then definitely
consult a doctor.
Most of the time, neck pain can subside within a few days and is not serious. But in some cases, neck pain can be a sign of a serious injury or illness. If you have neck pain that lasts for more than a week, is severe, or is accompanied by other symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
